Boys, get out of the way—the girls are here to kick some ass. The action genre has a lot of incredible female action stars, despite being predominately dominated by male superstars. The likes of Michelle Yeoh, Milla Jovovich, Charlize Theron, and Linda Hamilton are just a few of the truly awesome female action stars that have graced the screen. Here are the greatest female action actors of all time, without further ado.
Karen Gillan:
Karen Gillan began her career in Doctor Who as Amy Pond, but in more recent years, she has developed a taste for the action genre. Over the past ten years, Gillan has played a significant role in the Guardians of the Galaxy and co-starred as Ruby Roundhouse, a butt-kicking action heroine in both Jumanji films, with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Nick Jonas.
Gunpowder Milkshake gave Gillan the opportunity to blossom into the action superstar she was destined to be in 2021. Even though the film wasn’t particularly memorable, Gillan’s skill as an action star, who performed all of the choreography and the majority of the stunts herself, stood out.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead:
Mary Elizabeth Winstead has acted in a variety of different types of media. From her very first part in the soap opera Passions to two outstanding horror films, including 10 Cloverfield Lane and Final Destination 3. Winstead, however, has largely conquered the action genre. starring in Birds of Prey, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and Kate, a terribly underwhelming Netflix original action film.
Winstead consistently gives outstanding performances and jaw-dropping choreography in her action roles, solidifying her status as a female action star to keep an eye on. We adore everything she does and are eagerly anticipating her role in the upcoming Ahsoka series.
Zoe Saldaña:
For as long as we can remember, Zoe Saldana has been dominating the box office. With Avatar and the MCU, the action star has starred in two of the greatest and most lucrative action franchises ever. Her stellar performances as Neytiri and Gamora made those films twice as good than they otherwise would have been.
Saldana also demonstrated her action star prowess outside of these massive franchises by kicking a lot of asses in films like Colombiana, The Losers, and most recently The Adam Project. She never needs assistance from a stunt person and always manages the fight scenes on her own. a component of the action that improves its authenticity and fluidity. something that we adore seeing.
Halle Berry:
Halle Berry has a long history of playing amazing female action stars. The James Bond film Die Another Day, the X-Men franchise from the 2000s, and most recently, John Wick: Chapter 3: Parabellum, in which she may have played her best action role to date. Berry is a celebrity who has always flaunted her action-hero skills, but in John Wick: Chapter 3, she went above and beyond.
Halle Berry expressed interest in joining the franchise before John Wick: Chapter 3 was even in the works. Well, her voice was heard because Halle Berry was the only person in mind when creating the character of Sofia.
Zhang Ziyi:
Zhang Ziyi is without a doubt one of the most impressive and profound female martial artists in the industry thanks to her roles in martial arts classics like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of the Flying Dragons, and the underappreciated The Grandmaster. Her incredible, quick-witted, and brutal martial arts skill set is incredibly impressive, and her ability to command a scene is unmatched.
Milla Jovovich:
Milla Jovovich never fails to impress, whether she’s kicking a tonne of zombie butt in the Resident Evil series or playing an alien girl running from the law in The Fifth Element. Unfortunately, the majority of her films aren’t great, particularly Ultraviolet from 2006, which heavily relied on its shoddy visual effects. But watching Milla Jovovich on screen is always a pleasure. Her characters exude assurance, charisma, and the ability to be forces to be reckoned with because of Jovovich. In the 2020 video game adaptation of Monster Hunter, she even squared off against some enormous monsters.
Linda Hamilton:
With just one role, the legendary Linda Hamilton solidified her place among the best female action stars. Her character evolved from being a helpless damsel in distress in the first Terminator movie into one of the most fierce action heroines of all time .With an impressive collection of weapons, Sarah Connor will stop at nothing to put an end to the uprising of Skynet. But without the legendary Linda Hamilton at the helm, Sarah Connor wouldn’t be as awesome, resourceful, or inspiring.
Michelle Rodriguez:
Michelle Rodriguez, who stars in the Fast and Furious franchise as the most fierce female character, has long dominated the action movie industry. Rodriguez is a consistent performer, having starred in action blockbusters like Avatar, The Machete series, SWAT, and of course the most recent Dungeons and Dragons film, where she gave perhaps her best performance to date.
For every role, Rodriguez goes through rigorous training. For her roles, the action star has taken a number of gun safety courses. Most notably, she put on nearly 20 pounds of muscle to play Helga in Dungeons and Dragons. Rodriguez also performs a lot of driving stunts, as evidenced by her part in the Fast and Furious series.
Charlize Theron:
Charlize Theron invests her heart and soul into her action roles, much like Keanu Reeves does. She spends countless hours practising for each of her roles in order to perfect the choreography for each of her scenes. The Old Guard, Atomic Blonde, and Mad Max: Fury Road are without a doubt her best and most impressive action-hero performances. We sincerely hope she eventually joins the cast of John Wick.
Michelle Yeoh:
Michelle Yeoh is an actor who is unlike any other in Hollywood. She always provides the best possible action with her stunning barrage of martial arts blows. She has acted in a number of the greatest martial arts films ever made, with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon coming in first.
Yeoh has long been regarded as one of the greatest martial artists in history, but he only recently began to dominate Hollywood. Yeoh has only recently begun to receive the respect and admiration she truly deserves because of her Oscar-winning performance in the A24 multiversal masterpiece Everything Everywhere All At Once and her role as Shang-Chi in the MCU martial arts epic.
