Biden Urges Temporary Halt in Israel-Gaza Conflict to Secure Hostage Release

A pool report from the event states that President Joe Biden stated on Wednesday night that he thinks there should be a “pause” in the Israel-Gaza war in order to free the captives. The president was heckled during a campaign fundraiser.

“I believe we require a break,” Biden said to the person who had disrupted his address to demand an end to hostilities.

The president said, “A pause means give time to get the [hostages] out,” in response to the heckler’s question about what Biden meant to say. Allow time.

I’m the one who persuaded Bibi to issue a cease-fire order so the hostages could be released. It was me who spoke with Sisi to persuade him to open the door. Regarding Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Biden made a comment that seemed to allude to the Rafah crossing that connects Egypt and Gaza.

The White House has maintained since the start of the conflict that it would not advise Israel on how to respond to a lethal terror strike by Hamas. Biden’s remarks on Wednesday night deviate from this stance.

In actuality, Biden stated on Wednesday night, “Hamas is a terrorist organization—a blatantly terrorist organisation.”

On Wednesday night, an official from the White House informed ABC News that Biden was not misquoting when he claimed to have persuaded Netanyahu to demand a “cease-fire.” The official contended that the phrase has numerous meanings and could be used interchangeably with “humanitarian pause,” indicating that the president was referring to the brief stoppage that was implemented to liberate the two American hostages last month.

In order to deliver relief to those stranded in Gaza, the United States had recently demanded a humanitarian pause.
