The first image of Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn from Warner Bros.’ Joker: Folie à Deux has been released. The first image of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker sequel was unveiled by Folie à Deux director Todd Phillips just in time for Valentine’s Day. Joaquin Phoenix, who is resuming his role as the Clown Prince of Crime, is pictured next to her.
In August 2022, the first reports of Lady Gaga joining the cast of Folie à Deux surfaced. The renowned performer and actor recently claimed that the sequel’s filming had started in January. Although Phillips had previously stated that Gaga would “start with us until after the new year,” she didn’t specifically mention that she was on the Folie à Deux set. The first picture of Phoenix as Arthur Fleck/Joker was made public in December 2022.

Joker: Harley Quinn’s baton is passed by Margot Robbie
Margot Robbie previously portrayed Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn in live-action in the Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad films before Lady Gaga was cast in the part. It was always Robbie’s intention for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters that “gets passed, you know, from great actor to great actor” in response to the new casting, she said.
Lawrence Sher, the cinematographer for Folie à Deux, said that Gaga “will create a similar kind of magic that Joaquin brought by himself,” and that “the combination of the two will be exactly what we hope, which is exciting,” adding that “we’ll find magic every day on set.” Hopefully, we’ll also have a little bit of madness in there, too, because we like when there is a little bit of chaos.
The musical sequel to Joker, which features Phoenix, will centre on the relationship between Harley Quinn and the Clown Prince of Crime. Joker: Folie à deux, named after the phenomenon in which two or more people experience the same or a similar mental disorder, is the sequel to 2019’s Joker, Phillips officially announced. Phillips and Scott Silver will pen the sequel.
