10 Best Movies on Hulu Right Now In Detail:

Prey (2022):

Director Dan Trachtenberg simplifies the idea of hunter vs. hunted in Prey, the newest installment in the Predator franchise, by pitting the infamous antagonist against Naru (a superb Amber Midthunder), a Comanche woman in 1719. Prey may be the best movie in the series because director Trachtenberg masterfully creates tension and incorporates quiet, thoughtful moments into this intensely violent and action-packed movie. Trachtenberg and his amazing cast increase the intrigue and genius of this concept by going back to the fundamentals, making this franchise better than it has been in a long time.

Jagged Mind (2023):

Writer Allyson Morgan and director Kelley Kali’s queer psychological thriller Jagged Mind is superbly filmed. Maisie Richardson-Sellers (DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) plays Billie in the movie, a young woman who is about to start dating a mysterious new girl (Shannon Woodward) when she starts experiencing blackouts and strange visions that keep her stuck in a time loop reliving their first date. Jagged Mind deftly trudges towards thrilling twists while using exquisite use of colour and lighting to reveal the enigmatic, closely related horror story of love, trust, and possession. Jagged Mind is a must-watch movie with genuinely terrifying implications and an amazing cast.

Flamin’ Hot (2023):

Richard Montaez’s meteoric rise from a factory floor worker to an executive at Frito-Lay is chronicled in Flamin’ Hot, the most recent entry in the growing subgenre we’ll refer to as the “Corporate Origin Story.” In this humorous account of the creation of the famous Flamin’ Hot Cheeto, Jesse Garcia (Snowfall) plays Montaez, a character who infuses the bland snack company with his Mexican heritage. Even though this is Eva Longoria’s first time directing a feature film, she creates a vibrant setting for this rags-to-riches tale that feels kinetic and playful. Anyone seeking to watch a delicious film that is brimming with knowledge, grit, and fun should give this a watch.

Four Good Days (2020):

The director Rodrigo Garca (In Treatment) transforms this account of addiction and family strife into a riveting movie about perseverance based on the moving Washington Post article by Eli Saslow. Mila Kunis plays an opiate-dependent young woman who is trying to get clean, and Glenn Close (The Wife) plays her mother.

A perfect counterbalance to Kunis’ strung-out, painfully honest dive into the struggles of withdrawal is Close’s devoted but conflicted performance. Everyone involved in front of and behind the camera gives it their all to show how brutally the effects of addiction spread past the person who is suffering from the disease. Although sometimes difficult to watch, its realistic portrayal of recovery is well worth it.

The Meg (2018):

The Meg ups the ante on the Jaws-initiated shark attack genre of monster films. The movie, which is loosely based on the Steve Alten book, centres on a team of deep-sea explorers and oceanographers who come face to face with the enormous prehistoric Megalodon while submerging themselves in the Marianas Trench. This action-packed oceanic adventure has some truly terrifying moments in addition to a great cast of characters, and you become completely invested in their battle to subdue or kill this wild predator.

They’re played by an even better cast of actors, including Shuya Sophia Cai from Somewhere Only We Know, who portrays one of the cutest children in movie history, as well as Jason Statham from Crank, Rainn Wilson from The Office, and Cliff Curtis from Doctor Sleep.

White Men Can’t Jump (2023):

Sinqua Walls (Teen Wolf) and musician Jack Harlow play the roles originally played by Wesley Snipes (Demolition Man) and Woody Harrelson (Zombieland), respectively, in this contemporary remake of the 1992 movie White Men Can’t Jump. They play an odd couple hustling their way through the Los Angeles street basketball scene.

This movie is carried by Walls and Harlow’s chemistry as their characters quarrel and joke around while moving from court to court, trash-talking, and forming a friendship along the way. Along with the traditional Black and white humour you’ve come to expect from writer Kenya Barris (Black-ish), the film updates the setting and includes jokes that fit our current comedic landscape.

Twilight (2008):

Twilight, which Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen) directed, is a fascinating pop culture phenomenon that was influenced by the Stephenie Meyer novel series. Twilight follows misfit and newcomer Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) as she struggles with high school pressures, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), who just so happens to be a vampire. The story is set in a fictional small town in the Pacific Northwest. Twilight not only launched the careers of Stewart, Pattinson, and many others to new heights, but it also ignited a franchise that will endure for decades.

Clock (2023):

Clock, a horrifyingly brilliant science-fiction movie written and directed by Alexis Jacknow, stars I Am Number Four’s Dianna Agron. Clock, Jacknow’s first full-length film, brutally examines motherhood, purpose, and humanity’s need for reproduction. Clock is centred on Ella (Agron), a woman who does not want children, and has a biting script that enables the director to examine bodily autonomy through the horror genre.

Saul Rubinek (Hunters) and Melora Hardin (The Bold Type) co-star with Agron as Ella’s father and the scientist determined to “fix” Ella’s “broken biological clock” through a mysterious clinical trial, respectively.

The Hunger Games (2012):

The Hunger Games, a dystopian film starring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, a talented archer living in the poorest region of a country called Panem, is the movie that launched one of the most well-known YA franchises of all time, ranking alongside Twilight and Harry Potter. In a televised competition, two tributes from each of the 12 districts must fight to the death each year, with only one emerging victorious.

When Katniss discovers she is a contestant in the games, she must rely on her abilities and bravery to try to survive, upending the system and establishing an unexpected bond with fellow tribute Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in the process. It’s spooky, witty, and never-ending fun to watch The Hunger Games.

Quasi (2023):

The hilarious Quasi comedy from Broken Lizard, the creators of Beerfest and Super Troopers, is narrated by Brian Cox (Succession). Quasi, directed by Kevin Heffernan, offers a fresh take on the traditional story of an outcast hunchback trying to find love while surviving the conflict between the pope (Paul Soter) and king of France (Chandrasekhar). The film was co-written by Heffernan, Chandrasekhar, and frequent collaborator Steve Lemme. Heffernan and Lemme star in Quasi alongside Adrianne Palicki (The Orville), just like in previous comedies in which the writers and directors also appear.
