After previously rescheduling three shows because of Depp’s fractured ankle, Johnny Depp‘s band Hollywood Vampires began the European leg of its tour on Thursday.
The birthday wishes for Johnny Depp come from his admirers.
On Thursday night, Depp’s bandmate Alice Cooper urged audience members to sing “Happy Birthday” to the actor as the clock struck midnight during a performance by Hollywood Vampires and Depp, who turns 60 on Friday, in front of 40,000 people at Bucharest’s Romexpo arena in Romania.
Wow. Depp told the crowd after the rendition, as captured in a clip the band posted to Instagram, “That’s the biggest happy birthday song I’ve ever heard.”
The musician and actor thanked the audience and kissed them while placing his right hand over his heart.
The band’s first performance since Depp revealed he had fractured his ankle on May 29 was during which he was spotted with a soft leg cast on his left leg. Before leaving for abroad, Hollywood Vampires postponed three of its New Hampshire, Boston, and New York gigs.
Depp and his band shared separate Instagram posts on Thursday announcing that the Jeanne du Barry actor was in Bucharest for the start of the European leg of their tour.
Depp announced in an Instagram Story that the band’s upcoming show on Saturday in Istanbul will donate the proceeds to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) months after deadly earthquakes struck Turkey and Syria in February, killing thousands of people.
Before Thursday’s show, Depp spoke with a Romanian television crew about his acting career, his work with Hollywood Vampires, and the upcoming film he’s directing, Modigliani. At one point during the interview, Depp briefly voiced his Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp said of the project, which is co-produced by Al Pacino and Barry Navidi, “I’m gonna direct a movie in September.”
The band will make up the three shows it missed due to Depp’s leg fracture by the end of July, when Hollywood Vampire’s tour is currently scheduled to end. Additionally, the band disclosed the addition of additional tour dates while playing in Bucharest on Thursday night.
Earlier on Wednesday, the film production and distribution company Vertical revealed that it had acquired the North American distribution rights to Depp’s most recent film, Jeanne du Barry.

The French-language film, which stars Depp as France’s 18th-century King Louis XV, will be screened in the US after receiving its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May of 2023, though a release date has not yet been set.
