Taylor Swift was the host of the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards from beginning to end.
The Tuesday broadcast honoured musicians from all across the world, including Shakira, Peso Pluma, Stray Kids, Rema, and Anitta, in addition to the night’s most-awarded artist winning video of the year and the best pop award.
The event was held at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, and was hosted and performed by Nicki Minaj. Sean “Diddy” Combs received the Global Icon Award after giving a 30-year career-spanning performance that included his kids. Shakira performed a medley when accepting the Video Vanguard Award, bringing back the “She Wolf” in a big way.

Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” – Republic Records won BEST HIP-HOP.
SZA’s “Shirt” from Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA Records won BEST R&B.
Lana Del Rey and Jon Batiste’s “Candy Necklace” from Interscope Records was named BEST ALTERNATIVE.
Mneskin’s “THE Loneliest” from Arista Records won for BEST ROCK.
Anitta – “Funk Rave” – Republic Records, BEST LATIN
Stray Kids – “S-Class” – JYP / Republic, BEST K-POP Winner
Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” won BEST AFROBEATS. It was produced by Mavin Global Holdings Ltd., Jonzing World Entertainment, SMG Music, and Interscope Records.
Dove Cameron’s “Breakfast” from Columbia Records won VIDEO FOR GOOD.

Doja Cat’s “Attention” by Kemosabe Records and RCA Records, which was art directed by Spencer Graves, won the award for BEST ART DIRECTION.
Olivia Rodrigo’s “vampire” from Geffen Records, which was edited by Sofia Kerpan and David Checel, won the category for BEST EDITING.
