In nursing , we learned that empathy is different than sympathy…..our emotions when caring for a patient had to be slightly detached, to be able to handle trauma cases. We couldn’t be affected by emotion instead of reasoning.(when we were alone, by ourselves, we were emotional)
We were not passive about what needed to be done at work and we cared about each patient.
Some student nurses found it to be too emotional and had to change their career choice.
